Fickle Mother Africa

   "Fickle Mother Africa"
Fickle Mother Africa, you keep me on my toes,
Whether or not to pack an umbrella, no one ever knows,
I thought for sure I'd found the secret to your weather game,
Thinking it was all in the way the children and cattle play,
If they were restless and bucking all around,
Yelling, screaming, and stomping on the ground,
There was no need to account for what the skies might say,
We were sure to have a wet and rainy day.
Fickle Mother Africa, you keep me on my toes,
Whether or not to pack an umbrella, no one ever knows,
Knowing for sure I'd found the secret to your weather game,
I paid close attention to the way the children and cattle played,
They were restless and bucking all around,
Yelling, screaming, and stomping on the ground,
Although assured by what the skies did say,
Not a drop of rain fell from the Ugandan skies today.

We took our "eats" inside the classroom for fear we might get caught outside in the rain.

The children were so wired that it was impossible to do actual school work.
So, instead, we watched Garfield! Ah, one of the many beauties of my baby class!

  1. Did you write this? I like it. It made me think of a recent sermon I heard on Philippians how Paul had no control over his circumstances. Sometimes we think we know the weather etc. and we use our minds to read the circumstances but really God is always in control and we must be content in all circumstances and trust in Him alone and His ways. Not to lean on our own understanging. Does that make sense? Your poem is so true about what things look like should happen and then God displays His control and sovereignty and does something different. To trust Him....what a lesson. I love you Mary Grace and KK.

  4. Mary, I like it . So true, what we think sometimes is not at all what really will or did happen. Isn't life great?
